Where to go on holiday in February
February is the time of year for declarations of undying love, or burying your head under your pillow in an attempt to forget all about it! Celebrate in style or escape it all together with a trip to one of these destinations.
Indochina
Indochina is a melting pot of countries; each with their own signature flavours, sights and cultures. From sizzling street food in Vietnam, castaway islands in Cambodia, and limestone cliffs in Laos, to elephant encounters in Thailand and rural villages in Myanmar. February is a grand time to whisk yourself off on a multi-stop adventure.
Nicaragua
February really is the ideal month to visit Nicaragua. Crowds begin to thin, but temperatures remain warm and there’s still plenty of sunshine. It’s a great time to hit the beaches of the Corn Islands. The cities can be sweltering, but it’s worth heading to Granada for its International Poetry Festival. Although most readings are in Spanish, the literary vibe is infectious.
Cambodia
February is hot and sunny in Cambodia so hit the beach early before the other tourists. Valentine’s day is celebrated with enthusiasm by young Cambodians, but for a truly unique festival, head to Siem Reap. Here you’ll find the Giant Puppet Parade, an annual fundraising event which sees giant puppets paraded through the streets.
Thailand
Beach bums are in heaven during February when the sand is soft and sultry. Swap the cold remedies for a tropical cocktail and hit the beach. In the north of Thailand, Chiang Mai celebrates an annual flower festival; expect to see the city in all its glory with flower festooned floats parading their way along the streets.
Brazil
Did someone say Carnaval? This infamous nationwide festival is most famous in Rio, so book up well in advance if you hope to see the enormous parades, eye-opening costumes and full-on revelry. Though the weather might not be ideal, its more than made up for by the contagious festivities sweeping across the nation. Just dive right in!
