Where to go on holiday in August
Fed up with the unpredictable British summer? Where to holiday in August, you ask? Check out some awe-inspiring places to visit below – whether you’re a top explorer who loves a trekking adventure, an admirable animal lover and fancy swimming with Caimans or you’d prefer to laze on a beach and unwind on sandy shores, August has a lot to offer that is not one to miss!
Malaysia
It’s summer and it’s the perfect time of year to head to the east coast for a spot of diving. Tioman Island is one of the world’s premier diving spots, and with any luck, you’ll get to see tremendous turtles lay their eggs – this is the perfect season! Wander barefoot on castaway beaches, daydream on your own private island and snorkel amongst sea turtles. It is peak season, so be sure to book in advance.
Vietnam
Expect gorgeously hot days as well as a bit more rain during August. There are also a couple of fabulous festivals including the Mid-Autumn festival in Hoi An during which you can catch a colourful procession complete with beating drums, making its way through the streets.
Indonesia
You’re pretty much guaranteed sunshine across the country and it’s a great time of year to check out a few festivals. 17th August marks independence day which means colourful parades in Jakarta. In Sumatra, spend a while in Padang to catch the dragon-boat races. Unsurprisingly, August’s baking hot sun means peak season in Indonesia.
Bolivia
Well, if you are thinking “where to go on holiday in August that’s not too hot?” – Bolivia is the place for you. Well… the evenings are cooler, that’s for sure. With temperatures starting to rise and the sun shining strong during the day, August is a great time to whack on your sunnies and head to Bolivia’s famous salt plains. The vast expanse sparkles brightly under the strong sun and the contrast with the clear, bright blue sky makes for perfect pictures. Book ahead to avoid disappointment – you can even get to see some fascinating flamingos too!
