A Taste of Life on the Mekong
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Ho Chi Minh City to Mekong Homestay
You’ll leave Ho Chi Minh City bright and early this morning for the drive to the Mekong Delta. Sailing between small islands marooned in the Mekong, visit a rice paper factory and cycle along canals and pathways for a couple of hours before continuing on to your homestay. Your room may be simple, but this unique glimpse into Delta life is more than worth it.
Day 2 – Mekong Homestay to Can Tho
This morning you’ll be awoken by the tantalising smell of a home cooked breakfast. Your guide will take you on a walk through the rice fields and the local market in the village. After lunch it’s time to wave goodbye to your hosts and journey to Can Tho. Can Tho may be a little touristy, but it’s the perfect base to discover the floating market from. You’ll spend the night in a modern hotel in the centre.
Day 3 – Can Tho to Ho Chi Minh City or Phu Quoc
This morning, you’ll rise bright and early to hop aboard a local boat to the floating market of Cai Rang. Although you’re not going to be the only traveller here, there’s a good reason for that! It’s by far the largest and most interesting floating market in the Mekong Delta. Finally, you’ll travel back to Ho Chi Minh City arriving in the afternoon. It’s also possible to travel onwards to Phu Quoc Island instead.
