Vietnam and Cambodia for Honeymooners

“My first real taste of travelling was when I made my first backpacking trip 16 years ago taking in the Indo-loop of South East Asia staying in simple wooden huts and making my money stretch as far as possible, it was then I fell in love with the beauty of Asia.

I return year after year for 2–3 week holidays but now I’m the kind of traveller who likes to stay in more comfortable surrounding while not losing out on the experience, so the mix of In-Style accommodation and Rickshaw meaningful travel suits me to a tee! Beautiful and diverse, this long skinny country is best explored from North to South if you fancy ending your honeymoon on a beautiful beach (oh go on then!).

The city of Hanoi is a myriad of winding streets full of bohemian street cafes. A gateway to North Vietnam, from here you can take a trek to Sapa or cycle around the rice paddies of Ninh Binh. Most people have heard of Halong Bay, however I’d advise to skip the crowds and visit it’s more peaceful neighbour, Bai Tu Long Bay, upgrading to our In-Style Junk Boat where you’ll sail between limestone cliffs through turquoise waters and enjoy a three-course dinner under twinkling stars.

Hoi An is by far my favourite place in Vietnam, it is atmospheric and beautiful, with lanterns hanging from crumbling shop houses and tiny restaurants lining the river. Hoi An town has a stretch of quiet beach 15 mins away which is easily reached by cycling through the lush green rice paddies or by taxi. We also offer upgraded accommodation along the beach where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the area with your partner.

Tip: Visit Nu Eatery, Hoi An Town – tucked in a quiet alley this small restaurant serves modern Vietnamese tapas that is simply delicious.

Phu Quoc is the furthest island South, relatively undeveloped with a lush green rainforest in the interior and lots of lovely in-style resorts. The pace here is slow so the best thing to do is simply relax, take in the clear waters and collapse on a comfy lounger with a fresh coconut in hand!

The history of Cambodia is staggering but by visiting first hand you will be inspired by the gentle spirit of the locals and how the country has recovered. This beautiful country has plenty to offer from crumbling temples to bustling cities, local villages and mountains, the mighty Mekong river and not forgetting the beautiful beaches in the South. It’s the perfect destination for a laid back, cultural honeymoon.

I’d suggest you spend your first week in Cambodia soaking up the culture and getting active in and around the cities of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Visit the epic ruins of Angkor Wat at sunrise, or perhaps stay with a local family on a stilted lake house for a true taste of Cambodian life. There’s plenty to do, and many memories for you to create with your loved one.

After an adventurous start the latter part of your honeymoon should surely be spent hitting the islands off the Cambodia South Coast. The island of Ko Rong Samloem is stunning – think off the beaten track, rustic stylish beach huts steps away from the clear turquoise waters and quiet evenings by flickering candlelight.
