There is also a community project in this village where they clean the river and mangroves to ensure their fishing practices are maintained, as you explore the area your guide is likely to tell you all about the work here and proudly show you the positive effects of their hard work.

Day 1 – Arrival to Khlong Noi home stay

It’s the first day of your Thai homestay and you’ll most likely arrive by sleeper train. On arrival into Surat Thani, you will be collected by a driver and transferred to a small fishing village 30 minutes away. Within the community there are several host families, you will find out which one you will stay with when you arrive. The traditional houses are simple yet comfortable with a mattress on the floor and a basic bathroom.

In the afternoon a local guide will take you to visit some of the villagers to learn about their daily activities. You will take a boat along the river and see the work the community project does to clean the river and mangroves. The activities you will see may vary depending on the season but typical jobs here include shrimp fishing, palm leaf weaving and carpentry. At the end of the afternoon you can relax in the gardens next to the river or help prepare the evening meal with the host family. If you’re not too tired you can also go to watch the fireflies on the river with your guide.

Day 2 – Departure from Khlong Noi

The next morning of your Thai homestay you will have breakfast with your host family and as the locals start their days it’s time to say goodbye and continue with your Thailand holiday.
