Bite-sized trip

    3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
from £ 149.- per person (excluding flights)
  • When to go:
    November - May
Chiang Rai is becoming increasingly popular and we understand why! Tea hills nearby, temples unlike any other and close to the Golden Triangle worth it as far as we are concerned. Admire the glitter of the White Temple with your own eyes and go into the hills to pick and taste tea.

Day 1 – Your journey to Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is easy to reach by bus or plane. From Bangkok you fly there in an hour. Are you coming from Chiang Mai ? Every hour a bus leaves for Chiang Rai, which takes about three hours. Once in Chiang Rai you travel to your hotel on your own. And then it takes some getting used to. Chiang Rai is a provincial town with few other travelers. And where you really have a hang out with tourists in Chiang Mai, you go looking for yourself here. We searched and found. A fantastic local restaurant, with only Thai. With google translate we ordered our dishes and we feasted. Walk to the Clock Tower on the hour in the evening: you will be treated to a light show.

Days 2 – The tea hills around Chiang Rai

The green hills around Chiang Rai are on the program today; you go to Doi Mae Salong. This small village is located in the middle of the hills, with tea fields all around. The place in Thailand to pick, smell and taste tea. Women from local tribes pick the tea leaves from the bushes by hand, which are then taken to a small factory. Here the tea leaves are selected and dried, after which they are processed into real tea. And even though you are in warm Thailand, you will notice that the climate here in the hills can be an English one, with fog and colder temperatures. After a tasting you travel back to Chiang Rai.

Day 3 – Departure from Chiang Rai

Time to go, after breakfast. Because there is still plenty to do in and around Chiang Rai, we can imagine that you want to add a few more nights here. For example, the famous Golden Triangle is just a stone’s throw away ; with the three-country point at Chiang Saen. Here, the mighty Mekong River forms the natural border between Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. Look at the bottom of this page for more information about this excursion. Do you want to see more in Northern Thailand? Via Chiang Mai you can easily continue your journey to hip & adventurous Pai and to the green rice fields at Mae Hong Son. Or travel to Bangkok and from there back home or to the south. We are happy to help you put together your ideal trip.
