A picture tells a thousand words | Hannah

Racha Praba Lake has to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. After a short journey by longtail boat, weaving in and out of limstone cliffs which jutted out from the glassy surface, we arrived at our destination for the night. We were awe-struck. Besides the faint humming buzz of crickets in the trees, the whole place felt so peaceful and serene. The wooden huts in this picture are the homes of the locals. It’s my favourite snapshot from my time on the lake because not only is it so picturesque against the backdrop of the limestone mountains, but it captures a real sense of calm.

A couple of years ago, I travelled to Sweden with some friends and we stayed on an island in the archipelago just outside Stockholm. My friend’s mum owns a cabin on one of the islands (Mjölkö), and this is where we spent a week living the simple life. We spent our days eating cheese, reading books, walking through the forest and- as this picture demonstrates- fishing. Now, I’m a little squeamish when it comes to this sort of stuff so I’ll be honest, I didn’t really take part (unless you count drinking red wine and setting the worms free ?!)

Back in Thailand again, this time we were on a pretty little island on the west coast. It was the end of our Thailand trip and we’d taken a boat to Ko Hai to enjoy a bit of relaxation at the end of an active adventure! When we arrived in Ko Hai, there was a storm a’brewin’. I took this picture in the afternoon of our first day. We’d been sat on the beach watching the dark clouds roll in and the forks of lightening lighting up the horizon. Just as we felt a few heavy specks of rain, I decided to whip my camera out to capture this very moody shot. I love the contrast between the almost illuminous turquoise water and the dark sky.
