Activities & Experiences

Thailand family excursions

When you’re planning your family adventure with your travel specialist, they’ll suggest and include a number of our favourite local tours and experiences to help you get to know the place you’re visiting. Our family team have picked these experiences specifically with kids in mind, and they’ve often tried them out with their own children too.

Helping to feed the elephants, kayaking around beautiful Thai islands, hiking through the hills around Chiang Mai… we have some wonderful ways to spend your days! You travel specialist will talk you through the options and tailor the included activities to your family’s tastes.

Here are some of our favourite family experiences to give you an idea of what to expect.

Helping out at Wildlife Friends Foundation

Your kids might never forgive you if you go all the way to Thailand and don’t see some elephants! One of our favourite places to do so is the Wildlife Friends Foundation near Hua Hin. They work to rescue and rehabilitate local wildlife including monkeys, wild cats, birds, reptiles and of course elephants too. It’s a great educational experience about conservation, as well as being a wonderful chance for your kids to get close to Thailand’s most fascinating animals.

And if you’re heading a little further south, we also work with a fantastic elephant park in Khao Sok National Park.

Kayaking in Ko Samui

Ko Samui is one of our favourite islands for families, with lots for kids to do as well as great places to eat, drink and relax. Just a 20km boat ride away from the island is the stunning Angthong National Marine Park, a protected area full of marine life and wild forests. It’s a great place to experience the untouched nature of the Gulf of Thailand, and the whole family can get involved in sea kayaking, snorkeling and swimming – tropical bliss!

Of course, Ko Samui isn’t the only island with kayaking and snorkeling, and your travel specialist will talk you through the options for your chosen island escape

Jungle Activities in Khao Sok

Staying in the community-run Anurak Lodge and meeting the local people is an experience in itself, but during your stay your kids will love the activities they offer. Wildlife spotting, guided hikes, canoe rides through the jungle and boat trips on beautiful Lake Racha Praba – we can’t think of a better way to get to know Khao Sok National Park!

Bangkok by tuk tuk & longtail boat

Bangkok is one of Asia’s most exciting cities but it can be a little overwhelming at first, so we love including this half-day city tour to help you get your bearings in a way that’s fun for the whole family. You’ll head through the busy city streets with your local guide on an iconic tuk tuk, before taking to the city’s ancient canals on a traditional longtail boat. Along the way, you’ll see daily life unfold around you and learn a little about life here from a real local resident.

Hill tribe trekking & bamboo rafting

Not far from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, our stay with the Karen tribe is ever-popular with families. Aside from getting to know the fascinating and friendly people, eating delicious local food and chatting round the campfire, you’ll be taken out to explore the area on a bamboo raft, floating downstream to visit a neighbouring tribe. Your hosts will also take you walking through the hills to collect supplies for your stay from the local market – it’s a brilliant way to experience a slice of life in this remote corner of Asia.

Tailoring your family holiday

These are just a few examples of the activities we recommend for families in Thailand, but there’s more where these came from! Your travel specialist will be happy to talk you through the options so you can choose excursions that’ll be perfect for your kids.
