Strolling Through the Rainforest

Bite-sized trip
  • Itinerary:
    Sinharaja National Park
  • Duration:
    3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
From £ 199.- per person (excluding flights)
From exotic insects and lizards to colourful birdlife and green canopies, explore the sights and sounds of one of Sri Lanka's last remaining rainforests on this adventure into the wild. Joined by a guide, you'll follow hidden trails as you journey deep into the jungle. This original rainforest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its diverse flora and fauna, in particular, the 282 species of bird that call Sinharaja their home. You'll sleep in a simple guesthouse on the edge of the park with views of the lush vegetation and the sounds of the jungle as you fall asleep. This trip is a real adventure for nature lovers and bird watchers.

Day 1 – Arrival in the rainforest

When you arrive in Sinharaja, you’ll head to your small-scale guest house located near the entrance to the park where your well-appointed room, complete with private bathroom, air-conditioning, and an open balcony with breathtaking views of the forest will be waiting for you. You’ll be welcomed by the owner, a former ranger, who will help you settle in and then the rest of the day is yours to do as you please. Simply relax at your guesthouse or take a stroll through the friendly neighbourhood, with its scattering of local restaurants.. it’s completely up to you!

Day 2 – Rainforest expedition

You’ll wake up this morning ready to explore the rainforest. As you walk through the tropical surroundings, you’ll quickly realise how much life there is here from small, carnivorous plants to 50m high trees that soar in to the sky. Don’t forget to look out for the many exotic animals here too; from long centipedes and colourful lizards to screeching monkeys swinging around and the huge variety of birds that fly through the trees.

There are several hike routes to choose from ranging from 4 to 14 km and the local guides will help you pick the best one for you. The guides are very experienced and so finely attuned to the sounds of the rainforest that they seem to sense whenever a creature is nearby. In the afternoon you’ll return to your accommodation where you can shower and freshen up after your jungle adventure. The rest of the day is for you to spend at your own leisure.

Day 3 – Departure from Sinharaja

This morning will be the last time you wake to the sounds of the rainforest at Sinharaja. Once you’ve had your breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to this UNESCO World Heritage Site and continue to the next destination on your Sri Lanka holiday.
