Dolphins and a Mangrove Lagoon
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Arrival in Kalpitiya & lagoon boat trip
Today you’ll travel to Kalpitiya, known for its peaceful, non-touristic beaches and wildlife-rich lagoon. After checking into your beach front hotel, you’ll head out on an afternoon boat trip on Kalpitiya Lagoon. It’s the second largest lagoon in Sri Lanka, covered in lush greenery and mangrove forests that are home to many species of bird. The banks are dotted with small fishing communities. Sit back, relax and take in the picturesque views. Afterwards you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.
Day 2 – Dolphin spotting
If it’s dolphin season (Nov-Apr) then this morning you’ll have an early start as you head out dolphin-watching. The coastal waters around Kalpitiya are among the best places in Sri Lanka to observe dolphins, and the chances are high. You may even spot a whale if you’re really lucky! Dolphin watching operations in Kalpitiya are still on a small scale so you’ll not be joined on the sea by lots of large tourist vessels. Afterwards, you can spend the day relaxing by the beach with a good book and recharging your batteries, or perhaps even visit one of the kite-surfing schools if you’re feeling active.

Day 3 – Departure from Kalpitiya
Depending on what time you need to leave today, you might choose to spend this morning relaxing in a hammock or taking a splash in the sea. When it’s time to head off, you’ll pack up and hop into the car with your driver who will take you to your next destination. Or, if you’d like to extend your time here just let us know.
