Uncover Galle’s Colonial Past

Bite-sized trip
  • Itinerary:
    Galle
  • Duration:
    3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
From £ 224.- per person (excluding flights)
A beautifully preserved port town sitting on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, Galle is well known for its multi-cultural heritage. Embraced by the Indian Ocean from the three sides, its iconic Dutch fort is not only a famous landmark but a living community worth plunging into! Try your hand at creating traditional dishes with the help of a local chef and explore Galle’s entangled streets that take you on an adventure through the centuries.

Day 1 – Arrival in Galle

Galle is on everybody’s travel list and today it’s time for you to explore what’s hidden behind the ancient fort walls! This town’s certainly got character and for you to fully immerse in its rich culture and history, we have found a charming hotel which will be your home for the next few days. Located in the heart of Galle’s old quarter, with numerous cafes and restaurants on the doorstep, this colonial building with galleries and courtyards will transfer you right back to Galle’s glorious days.

Day 2 – Cooking class and free time

Today you’ll enjoy a two-hour Sri Lankan cooking class in the heart of Galle Fort. Under the watchful eye of a local chef you will learn to make several traditional dishes. At the end of the class you’ll sit down with your fellow amateur chefs and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Choose from an 11am start for lunch or a 4pm start for dinner and come with an appetite!. The rest of the day is free for you to do as you please – enjoy quaint cafes, wander around the town and sample some seriously sumptuous street food. If you happen to be here on a Sunday, we highly recommend visiting the Flea Market where you can easily send a good few hours.

Day 3 – Departure from Galle

Sadly, it’s time to leave Galle today. You can continue exploring Sri Lanka’s Southern coast and stay on one of the many beaches for a few days of relaxation. Or, if your adventure has come to an end, head to Colombo for the final day on the emerald island.
