Surf Away in Arugam Bay

Bite-sized trip
  • Itinerary:
    Arugam Bay
  • Duration:
    4 days / 3 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
From £ 389.- per person (excluding flights)
  • Travel period:
Visit between May and September for the best weather
Discover Arugam Bay whilst it remains one of Sri Lanka's best-kept secrets, as it won't stay that way for long. Renowned for some of the best surf spots in the world, this low-key fishing village is as chilled as the sundowner waiting for you after a busy day riding the waves. If surfing isn't for you, there's still plenty to keep you busy and as you'll stay in a beachside getaway, those golden sands will never be more than a stone throw away.

Day 1 – Arrive in Arugam Bay

Today you’ll reach the small village of Arugam Bay, with its sun-kissed beaches and seriously good surf.  Your accommodation is in a quiet spot just a few minutes tuk-tuk ride from the centre and overlooking Whiskey Point, one of the best surf spots in the area. You will stay in a traditional ‘Kudil’, a spacious bungalow located on the beach and equipped with A/C, private bathroom, and an outdoor veranda.

Days 2-3 – Sea, sand, surf, and sundowners

The next few days are all about embracing all that Arugam Bay has to offer. For those looking to hit the waves, be it beginner or the more advanced enthusiast, there are a number of excellent spots around with the most renowned being Main Point, Whiskey Point, and Peanut Farm. For those looking for a little guidance, a 90 minute lesson is included in your stay and all levels of capability are of course catered for.

For those who prefer to keep their feet a little drier, there is plenty to keep you busy with a number of national parks and wildlife experiences nearby and easily arranged locally. We would definitely recommend exploring the scenic Panama Tank, home to dozens of wild crocodiles! Back in town, you may fancy a spot of yoga or simply pop your towel down and laze in the sun all day… the choice is yours.

Day 4 – Depart Arugam Bay

All good things must come to an end and sadly, today it is time to leave your idyllic beach side retreat and head on to your next destination. Fortunately for you, you’re likely to be moving on to either Yala National Park or the peaceful village of Ella, with its breathtaking mountain views, so it’s not all bad!
