7 Questions with Ceri | Sri Lanka Travel Specialist

Blog
Our resident Sri Lanka Travel Specialist Ceri has recently returned from her holiday in Sri Lanka so we’re putting her in the spotlight with seven questions about this fascinating country…

1. What inspired you to travel to Sri Lanka?

I met my old flat mate when backpacking in India a few years ago and she had just visited Sri Lanka and didn’t stop talking about how amazing it was, so ever since that I‘ve wanted to go myself. I imagined it to be like India, but with a slower paced island vibe. And when I first heard about Adam’s Peak, I knew I had to climb it one day!

2. Which was the best meal you had whilst travelling in Sri Lanka?

Ooh so many to choose from. My first Sri Lankan curry was mouth-watering but I think it has to be the fish curry and coconut sambol that I prepared myself at the homestay in Kandy. Delicious!

3. If you only had one word to describe Sri Lanka, what would it be?

It seems impossible to describe this incredible country in just one word, but if I had to pick one, I guess I would have to say ‘tropical!’

4. What is the best advice you have for someone travelling to Sri Lanka?

Try to pack in as much as possible as well as visit the beaches as there is so many different things in such a small country to experience. Eat as much fresh curd as possible because it’s delicious and so good for your stomach- not to mention it helps balance out all the spicy food. I’d also recommend taking some good sunscreen as the sun is very strong and I found that I burned very quickly.

5. If you went back to Sri Lanka, where would you re-visit and why?

I would definitely go back to Ella as the scenic views are simply breathtaking and the beaches are beautiful. On my next Sri Lanka holiday, I would also really like to visit the East coast as I didn’t get the chance to visit it on my recent trip.

6. Which was your favourite beach (do you have a photo)?

I liked Mirissa the best which is near Unawatuna, but they are all fantastic compared to the pebbles on Brighton beach!

7. Did you meet any interesting characters during your trip?

My driver Arthur was very interesting and was a fountain of local knowledge everywhere we went and never short of a story. I learned so much from him.

If you get the chance to visit Sri Lanka, do it! With so much to see and experience, it has quickly become one of my favourite destinations.
