Sea Shells on Coral Islands
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrive in Trincomalee
Warm sand between your toes, a calm sea and miles of sandy shorelines; Trincomalee is the perfect place for a beach stay in Sri Lanka with your children. You’ll be staying in a comfortable resort located on the beach. After checking in, you can head straight down to the beach and take a dip in the sea.
If you prefer, you can gaze over the edge of the swimming pool and watch your kids playing a game of football on the grass, or finally read that book that you’ve been carrying around with you.
Day 2 – Snorkelling on Pigeon Island
One of the reasons to travel to the east coast of Sri Lanka is the wonderful snorkelling at Pigeon Island. Your boat leaves from Nilaveli and it’s about a 10-minute crossing to the island. It’s clearly indicated where you can and cannot snorkel – this is to protect the coral here. On the south side of the island, you’ll see colourful coral and reef sharks happily swimming around. On the north side of the island, you’ll mainly see colourful fish. You and the kids are sure to have a blast spotting all the marine life around the island!
Day 3 – Departure from Trincomalee
If you’d like an extra day or two of relaxation, let us know so we can extend your stay. If you want to head west, you can grab a bike and cycle past the ancient temples at Polonnaruwa, or continue onto the Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka, for a taste of home-cooking with your host family.
