Negombo is the perfect starting point for your family holiday to Sri Lanka. Just up the road from Colombo, it has a lot to offer, and you'll get to experience the fisherman's way of life. Whilst you're here, you'll join a local fisherman and try to catch your own dinner with a traditional bamboo fishing rod. You'll then end the day relaxing on the beach, where a local restaurant will cook your catch on the BBQ - the ideal end to the day!

Day 1 – Arrive in Negombo

When you arrive in Sri Lanka, we’ll transfer you and your family straight to the relaxed coastal town of Negombo. You’ll immediately notice the pleasant hustle and bustle of Sri Lanka, and it’s great fun to look out of the window and see walkers, cyclists, roaring buses, and the odd lost cow all using the same roads. You’ll soon arrive at your family-friendly hotel, and you can cool down in the refreshing pool.

In the evening, stroll down to the beach and choose any of the great spots to eat. You’ll find many restaurants with tables on the beach, offering fresh fish curries and a selection of food that all the family can enjoy.

Day 2 – Fishing trip, fish market & beach BBQ

Today there’s fun for all the family, as you experience life as a Sri Lankan fisherman. You’ll sail through Negombo lagoon in a fishing boat and you’ll try your hand at fishing with traditional bamboo rods, using shrimp as bait. After about an hour’s fishing, you’ll head to the fish market (in case you haven’t yet caught anything) and you’ll see where the locals buy and sell their fish. With your fresh fish in hand, your next stop is the beach, where you can all take it easy, grab a Lion beer and have your dinner cooked for you on the BBQ. Ah, bliss!

Day 3 – Departure from Negombo

You’ll hopefully have recovered from the jet lag now, so it’s time for you to continue on with your family holiday. Your private driver will be waiting to take you to your next stop. You can head to spot elephants on safari,  climb the mighty Lion’s rock or experience some of Sri Lanka’s ancient history in the famous city of Polonnaruwa.
