OK, so maybe Colombo isn’t the place you’re most excited about in Sri Lanka, but the country’s capital has plenty to offer and is a real eye-opener for kids to see daily life in a big working city. Hustle, bustle and honking horns fill the streets, and if you’re after a little culture-shock then it’s a great place to spend a night….the food is amazing too! Whilst here we’ll arrange a tuk-tuk tour to give your family a real local experience.
Tuktuk in Colombo

Day 1 – Arrive in Colombo

As you approach the heart of the city, through the traffic and soundtrack of blaring horns, you can watch the city from the car window…..there’s always something happening here! You’ll settle into your hotel in a great location near the waterfront and Galle Face Green – a grassy promenade full of street food, local people strolling along and children playing cricket and football. It’s a nice family-friendly place to explore before getting a good night’s sleep.

Day 2 – Tuk-tuk city tour

Today you’ll be picked up by a local guide who’ll take you on a tour which will give you and your kids a real experience of Sri Lanka’s capital, as you weave through the heart of the city by tuk-tuk. You’ll stop in the colourful working neighbourhood of Pettah – alive with markets, street vendors, spicy aromas and Bollywood music blaring out of speakers by the roadside. You’ll rest and try some local snacks by the Wolvendaal Church, before being dropped back to your hotel.

Unless you decide you’d like a bit longer in Colombo, it’ll be time to check out and carry on to the next stop on your Sri Lankan adventure, or to the airport if it’s time to fly home.
