Day 1 – Arrive in Arugam Bay

As you arrive in the small village of Arugam Bay, you and your family will be greeted with miles of sandy beaches and some of the best surf spots in Sri Lanka. Your family-friendly accommodation is a traditional ‘Kudil’ bungalow, this is the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach. Your hotel is a few minutes out of the village, just jump in a tuk-tuk for a fun ride into the centre.

Days 2-3 – Surf lesson & free time

The beaches in this area offer sweeping golden sands, tropical palms and a laid-back feel – a great spot to spend a few days with your family. Today you’ll try your hand at surfing. The 90-minute lesson is suitable for all levels so all the family can participate! Afterwards, you can practice at one of the many excellent surf spots nearby like Whiskey Point or Peanut Farm.

If you can drag the kids away from the beach or want to explore further afield, Pottuvil Lagoon is a great place to learn about the mangroves and spot some of the local birdlife. There are also plenty of national parks nearby to spot elephants, leopards and crocodiles, plus many more, in their natural habitats. Arugam Bay has lots of options for eating out too so you’ll have plenty of choices to keep the whole family happy.

Day 4 – Departure from Arugam Bay

As your time at the beach comes to an end you’ll pack your bags and head on to your next destination. From Arugam Bay, you’re most likely to head to Kandy to get to know the locals with a homestay. You can also head to the famous Yala National Park or the quiet village of Ella up in the mountains.
