Local fishermen share the seas with surfers, and in the morning you’ll see boats bringing in the daily catch.

Day 1 – Arrival in Weligama

The next stop on your Sri Lanka holiday is the laid-back, surf haven of Weligama Bay. As you travel along the south coast, keep your eyes towards the ocean as you may be lucky to spot a group of stilt fishermen balancing on wooden poles. You’ll be staying in a family friendly hotel located directly on the beach. Once you’ve settled in, take a stroll along the golden sandy beach and stop for a fresh coconut in one of the beachfront cafes. When it comes to dinner, you’re spoilt for choice as there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance of your hotel.

Day 2 – Beach time

Today is free to do as you wish. Weligama is a surf mecca due to the bay’s shallow waters, so you may want to take this opportunity to learn to surf as a family. There are plenty of surf schools along the beach offering lessons for all ages. If your kids are wildlife lovers, just along the coast, the town of Mirissa is one of the best places in Sri Lanka for whale watching (between November and April), and we can arrange a morning boat trip in search of these mighty marine giants. Or simply kick off your flip-flops and soak up the slow paced coastal vibes whilst your kids play in the pool.

Day 3 – Departure from Weligama

Take a final stroll along the beach and a dip in the sea this morning before continuing your journey. If you’d like to stay longer, just ask your Travel Specialist to include another night or two (or more!) into your travel plan
