Home to perhaps some of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka, Tangalle is a quiet spot on the south coast with pretty bays, peaceful palm-fringed sands and tropical lagoons. Day 1 – Arrive in Tangalle

Sri Lanka’s south coast is blessed with palm-fringed, tropical beaches and Tangalle is a Rickshaw favourite. This small fishing town has remained off the mass market tourism radar and you’ll find peaceful beaches and small coves. You’ll stay in a family friendly property in a quiet location overlooking the beach. Though the sea looks appealing, it’s not possible to swim here as the tides can be rough. However, the hotel has a swimming pool. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Days 2-3 – Sea turtle night safari and R&R

The coastline around Tangalle is still relatively undeveloped and various types of sea turtles come here to lay their eggs on the beach at night. One evening during your stay we’ll arrange for you to travel by tuk tuk to nearby Rekawa beach – a popular, sandy spot for sea turtles to lay their eggs (especially from February to August). Patience is needed as you wait (in a small group) for the turtle to be spotted. Then you’ll be permitted to go onto the beach, quietly and slowly, to watch the turtle dig a large hole which she will then drag herself into and lay her eggs. After this, the turtle slowly shuffles back towards the surf and you travel back to your resort by tuk tuk.

There’s nothing else planned for you for the next few days, so feel free to relax and soak up your tranquil surroundings.

Day 4 – Departure from Tangalle

After a few days of relaxation, it’s time to leave Tangalle and meet your driver as you head to your next destination. If three nights is too short, ask your Travel Specialist to add an extra night to your travel plan.
