Wine tasting in South Africa

Day 1 – Into the heart of South Africa’s wine region

East of Cape Town lies the heart of South Africa’s wine region. Around the charming towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, you will find some 200 wineries, including well-known names such as Spier, Lanzerac and Delaire Graff. The landscape here is gently rolling and hilly, making it perfect for a bike ride. You will spend the next few nights in a characterful guesthouse near Stellenbosch.

Day 2 – Cycling through South African vineyards

One of the best ways to experience the wines of the region is on a bike tour. You don’t need to worry about driving yourself and can enjoy the tastings on offer at the wine estates! In the morning, you will be transferred to the starting point of your bike tour where you will meet your guide, and off you peddle. The route leads you along quiet paths, away from busy roads, with occasional climbs. Along the way, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and False Bay, so be sure to bring your camera. And of course, you’ll stop at three wineries to enjoy the locally produced wines.

After the bike tour, spend the rest of your time strolling through the charming streets of Franschhoek or Stellenbosch, among the whitewashed Cape Dutch and French buildings.

Day 3 – Departure from the wine region

Depending on your plans, you can depart from the wine region towards Cape Town or continue your journey further east. You may wish to continue to Hermanus, South Africa’s whale capital, where you can spot whales just from the shore in the right season. Or opt for a trip to the pristine De Hoop nature reserve. Here you can hike among impressive dunes and rugged cliffs, and spot all kinds of wildlife
