Colourful Cape Town
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival in Cape Town
Today you arrive in colourful Cape Town. After checking in at your guesthouse, you can immediately cool off in the pool or explore the city’s highlights. A visit to Table Mountain is not to be missed. You can climb it in two hours on foot, or you can take the cable car in about four minutes. If the weather is clear in the morning, grab the opportunity as the clouds can quickly gather on the mountain again, denying you the beautiful view of the city.
Day 2 – Cape Malay cooking class
For many travellers, the colourful cottages in Bo-Kaap are nothing more than a photo opportunity. But there is a story behind them: this colourful suburb was once the home of South Asian slaves and is now inhabited by their descendants, the Cape Malays, who still honour their culture and traditions. This is also reflected in their cuisine, with delicious dishes such as biryanis and samosas. Today you’ll learn more about how to create a Cape Malay meal on a cooking class with a local. You’ll learn about the different spices used and how to prepare typical dishes which you will, of course, then get the opportunity to eat.
Day 3 – Explore independently
Today, you’ve got time to explore at your own pace. You may wish to take a tour to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela and his fellow freedom fighters were imprisoned. The tours are led by former prisoners, giving you a unique and personal insight into the history of Cape Town and South Africa.
Or head further afield and discover the Cape Peninsula. Drive past the fishing boats of Hout Bay, follow the dramatic Chapman’s Peak Drive, with its 114 curves and fantastic ocean views, and stop at the Cape of Good Hope. On the way back, be sure to visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
In the evening head to the VA Waterfront and grab a bite at one of the many restaurants.
Day 4 – Departure from Cape Town
This may be the final stop on your South Africa trip as you catch your flight home from Cape Town. If it’s only the beginning there are several places to continue your journey. Sample South Africa’s quality wines in the nearby wine region around Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Or travel along the coast to Hermanus for the opportunity to spot whales. There’s plenty to see and do in Cape Town itself, and we’d be happy to add on a night or two in the city if you have the time.
