Hotel Hout Bay in South Africa

Day 1 – Arrival in Hout Bay

Hout Bay, with its picturesque fishing harbour and sandy beach, is located about 20 km south of Cape Town. It’s a great place to start or end your South Africa family holiday in a relaxed way. Your accommodation is perched on the river banks of the Hout Bay River, surrounded by mountains and just a short walk into the main town. Enjoy an afternoon spent on the sands of the nearby beach, splashing about in the swimming pool and finish the day with a delicious family meal at one of the beachfront restaurants.

Day 2 – Free time in Hout Bay

Today we have left it to you to choose how you spend your day as a family. You may prefer your day to be busy with activities or want to simply relax on the beach. If you feel like exploring the area on foot, there are several family-friendly hikes nearby. ‘The Pipe Track’ and ‘Sandy Bay’ trail each offer beautiful coastal views and are suitable for families with younger children. You may wish to to take one of the famous coastal drives to Chapman’s Point or the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.

Day 3 – Seal Island boat trip

Today, you’ll head out on a boat trip to nearby Duiker Island, home to a colony of seals and seabirds. The journey takes around 45 minutes (depending on sea conditions) and before you know it you’ll see the mass of Cape fur seals doing their thing, whilst enjoying stunning views of the beautiful coastline. Your crew will provide a commentary of facts about the area’s wildlife, geography and history – which is fun and engaging for all the family. Seeing the hundreds of seals here is an experience in itself, and the clear waters around the island make it easy to spot them diving into the ocean and swimming near the boat. On your return why not enjoy some (freshly caught) fish and chips for lunch in the harbour?

Day 4 – Departure from Hout Bay

Today your time in Hout Bay has come to an end. If this is the end of your South Africa family holiday, head to Cape Town in time to catch your international flight back to the UK. However, if this is just the beginning of your trip the next stop could be the Cape wine region or you could head to Hermanus to spot whales.
