Day 1 – Arrival into Porto

Porto is the second city of Portugal and is famous for its production of port. The Douro River runs through this picturesque city: its’ banks are lined with traditional port houses. If this is the first stop on your Portugal journey, jump on the metro from the airport to the city centre.

You will be staying in a centrally located studio or one-bedroom apartment (a sofa bed is available), with a small kitchen. If you would prefer to stay in a hotel speak to your travel specialist about the options and price.

Day 2 – Pedal through Porto

We recommend a big breakfast in preparation for your active morning! Today you will explore Porto on a guided bicycle tour. Make your way to the meeting point where you will be fitted with a suitable bike. Then peddle off through the city’s historic districts. Your local guide knows Porto well and will point out places of interest as your cycle. You will also cross the Douro by boat. It’s a three-hour excursion at a relaxed pace. If you’re cycling in the summer be sure to take plenty of water and sunscreen.

Your afternoon is free. Because Porto is quite small, everything can be done on foot, but keep in mind that Porto is hilly. For the best city view, climb the Torre dos Clérigos; you have to climb about 250 steps, but the view is unparalleled. The Parque da Cidade in Porto is the only city park in Europe that is located by the sea. Here you can play frisbee, walk or just chill in the shade. Opposite Porto, across the Douro, is Vila Nova De Gaia, with its wine cellars and tiled houses – this is the place to taste the famous port.

Day 3 – Time to depart

If you want more time to explore Porto then let your travel specialist know and we can arrange additional nights in your accommodation. Where next? If your family are water babies then you may want to try surfing in Peniche or kayaking on the west Algarve. More adventurous kids will love glamping in Alentejo. We can arrange car rental to fit the size of your family – ask us to include this in your travel plan.
