Family time on the Silver Coast
Bite-sized trip
There is a lot to experience on the Silver Coast in central Portugal. Lisbon is only one hour drive away; you can easily visit the castles of Obidos and Sintra from here, and of course there is also the beach. Time for some family R&R!
Day 1 – Arrival into Alvorninha
You’ll be staying in a former Portuguese winery that is located amidst the hills and vineyards of Extremadura and has been converted into a small scale holiday park. The accommodation is perfect for a family holiday, with baby cots and bunk beds. There is a heated swimming pool, a petting zoo and kids’ playground.
Days 2-5 Free time
There’s plenty to keep you occupied during your stay. The most child-friendly beach can be found in São Martinho do Porto. Tucked away in a cove, the moon-shaped beach is almost completely isolated from the sea, so the water is calm and safe. Surf lessons can be arranged for children aged 6 years and older, and (of course) parents. Nearby you will also find the lagoon of Obidos and here you can rent everything for windsurfing, sailing and canoeing. Away from the beach, you may wish to explore the castles of Óbidos or Sintra (Portugal’s most colourful city). Admire the thick castle walls, stroll through the narrow, cobbled streets and enjoy the view over the valley.
Day 6 – Departure from the Silver Coast
Not had enough of surfing yet? Then travel to Peniche, on the coast, where you can take more surfing lessons. If you’re looking for a city buzz, Lisbon is about a 1.5 hour drive away.
