From Mountain Ridges to Hidden Villages: Community Trek
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Pokhara to Galeshwar – trek to Bas Kharka
Travel time: about 3.5 hour drive and 3.5 hour trek
After a filling breakfast you’ll leave Pokhara behind and drive on rural roads into the untouched south-west of the Annapurna mountain range. During the beginning of your trek you’ll walk along a sandy path right next to the river Kali Ghandaki. On your arrival in the small village you’ll stay in a simple but authentic home stay.
Day 2 – Bas Kharka to Nangi
Travel time: about 6 hour trek
There’s a chance you’ll be woken up early by the chickens and goats this morning. After breakfast you’ll leave the typical houses behind you and walk through rhododendron bushes with views of the snowy peaks of the Himalayas. At lunch time you’ll arrive in the village of Danda Kaske for a quick rest. From here it’s a 3 hour walk to Nangi (2230m) where you’ll spend the night in a lodge.
Day 3 – Nangi to Mohare Hill
Travel time: 6.5 hour trek
Today is the toughest day of the trek. You’ll climb to an altitude of 1100 meters through rhododendron bushes and moss covered trees. Open meadows change to mystical forests in scenes reminiscent of “The Lord of the Rings”. On arrival at the top of Mohare Hill you can kick off your shoes and take in the impressive mountain range of the Annapurna.
Day 4 – Mohare Hill to Danda Kharka
Travel time: 2 hour trek
Today you’ll have more free time than other days. It’s well worth rising early though to see the sun rise over the Annapurna Mountain range. After breakfast you’ll begin your descent to the lodge in Danda Kharka. This area is known for the large number of birds that love to make nests in the rhododendron bushes. The stretched out alpine pasture is a perfect spot to take a rest after the last few days.
Day 5 – Danda Kharka to Tikot
Travel time: 7 hour trek
There’s a full day of descent ahead of you. The landscape changes constantly whilst you walk along the back of the mountain ridge and see the highest peaks of the Annapurna on your left and right. You’ll finish the day in one of the most charming villages of this trek, Tikot, where medieval eco-houses with slate rooftops are built close together. You’ll stay at a local home where the lady of the house will cook you a Nepalese meal on the wood fire.
Day 6 – Tikot to Tiplyang and back to Pokhara
Travel time: 2,5 hour trek and 4 hour drive to Pokhara
The last day of your trek has come and the local people will be up early to work on the land. After your descent you’ll reach the village of Tiplyang. You’ve earned a cold beverage and a final look back on the trek behind you. Your driver will transfer you back to Pokhara where you can swap your trekking shoes for slippers.
