Namibia & Botswana Visa, Passport & Money Advice
When travelling to Namibia and Botswana it is important to know about visa, passport and money matters. We have compiled the most important, up-to-date information on one page so you don’t need to search for hours and can be well prepared for your holiday to Namibia and Botswana.
Visa & passports
If you are a British Passport holder, you do not need a visa to visit Namibia and Botswana for stays of up to 90 days. But you need to ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months on your date of departure from Namibia and Botswana.
For Namibia you need at least two blank pages in your passport and for Botswana at least one blank page. You may also be asked to provide the following:
- Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
- Return or onward ticket
- Accommodation details
Local currency
The currency used in Namibia is the Namibian Dollar, but the South African Rand is also accepted. The official currency in Botswana is the Pula. Pula and Namibian Dollars are not available at border exchange offices so we recommend withdrawing local currency upon arrival in Namibia and on arrival in Botswana. Credit cards are accepted across Namibia and Botswana, but some scams do happen here so we advise to use cash in shops and at petrol stations. At the lodges we advise you to pay using your credit card.
Tipping
In Namibia and Botswana, tipping is customary for guides, drivers, and restaurants. In restaurants, tipping around 10% of the bill is standard. For guides, we recommend tipping approximately NAD 150–250 or BWP 150–250 per guide per day.
