Getting around Namibia & Botswana

Namibia and Botswana are best known for iconic destinations like the Namib Desert and the Okavango Delta, but these neighbouring countries offer an incredible variety of experiences begging to be explored. Whether you’re captivated by Namibia’s rugged landscapes or Botswana’s abundant waterways, a journey through these countries promises unforgettable adventures. Keep reading to discover our tips on the best ways to travel through Namibia and Botswana.

Self-drive holidays in Namibia & Botswana

A self-drive holiday is one of the best ways to explore Namibia and Botswana: with a car, you have the freedom to travel at your own pace and enjoy the stunning landscapes, plus the flexibility to stop wherever you want and not rely on set schedules. In both Namibia and Botswana, many roads are well-maintained, though gravel and sandy routes are common in more remote areas. Driving is on the left side of the road, making it a smooth transition for travellers from the UK.

Private driver

If off-road driving is not your thing, then we can arrange a private driver to accompany you throughout your Namibia and Botswana adventures. Take the stress out of your trip and enjoy travelling across these incredible landscapes hassle-free. Our drivers know these roads well and have tonnes of experience navigating the sometimes challenging terrain, as well as top tips for local experiences and hidden gems you may otherwise have driven past without knowing.

Domestic flights

While self-driving is an adventure in itself, some routes – like reaching the Okavango Delta in Botswana or crossing Namibia’s vast desert landscapes – can involve long distances. In such cases, or if you are limited by the number of days, you might want to opt for a domestic flight. Flights connect Windhoek, Swakopmund, and Sossusvlei, in Namibia. In Botswana, small charter flights connect Maun, Kasane, and lodges in the Okavango Delta and Moremi.
