Trekking in Myanmar
With gentle rolling hills and traditional rural villages, Myanmar is the perfect place for a pleasant trek. If you’re looking for pure challenge, then these may not be the Himalayas or the remote jungles of Borneo, though trekking in Myanmar is not so much about counting the blisters on your feet as it is about the smiling faces and waving hands that will greet you along the way. Whether it’s for the beautiful rural landscapes or the authentic cultural encounters that await you, trekking in Burma is an experience you won’t soon forget…
Trek from Kalaw to Lake Inle
Walk along green hills and valleys in Shan state, through farmlands and flower fields, and past tribal villages. Starting in the small town of Kalaw, you’ll hike your way to the famous Lake Inle, where local tribes live in wooden stilt houses and grow crops on floating farms in the lake. This 2-day Hike Through the Emerald Hills includes a night in a village homestay, giving you a chance to get a real taste of rural life in Myanmar.
Day-hiking in Kyaukme
As part of our 4-day Planes, Trains and Watermobiles trip, you’ll travel by local bus from Hsipaw to the quiet mountain town of Kyaukme, which is a great base to explore the surrounding area. Your guide will discuss whether you want to do a tough trek or go on a more relaxed walk. You’ll be given insight into the life of the local Palaung people living in the hills and have lunch in one of their villages. The hill tribes live according to century old traditions and some of them still rarely see westerners, so you’ll be truly walking down some roads-less-travelled.
