Our top things to do on a holiday to Morocco

Culture and tradition

Morocco is a country rich in culture and tradition – and as a traveller, that’s part of the appeal. Berber, Arabic and Mediterranean influences are present in the food, language, customs and more. Hospitality is an important part of Moroccan culture and you can expect to be warmly welcomed everywhere you go with a glass of mint tea.

To experience the real Morocco and its culture you need to spend time with the locals and at Rickshaw Travel we have created authentic experiences that offer an insight into local life. Enjoy a homecooked lunch in a family home, observe a slipper maker at work or spend time with the local fishermen in Essaouira.

Diverse landscapes

Morocco is home to a varied landscape. There are epic mountains to climb, green palm valleys dotted with small villages and deep rocky gorges. You can experience nomadic life and stay overnight in a Bedouin tent camp in the desert and relax on golden sand beaches on the coast.

Feeling active?

In Morocco you have many opportunities to be active and explore the great outdoors on foot, on two wheels or even by camel! There are some great hiking opportunities for all abilities through the Dades Gorge and in the Atlas Mountains. For a real challenge you can trek to the summit of Mt Toubkal – the country’s highest mountain. Mountain biking is also possible in the mountains, or you can peddle through the medina in Marrakech. For a totally unique experience, discover the desert dunes in true local style, on the back of a camel.

Moroccan cuisine

Mouthwatering cuisine

We can’t talk about Morocco and not mention the food! Moroccan cuisine is a Rickshaw Travel favourite and is likely to be one of your holiday highlights. Couscous is Morocco’s national dish and you’ll find it on menus throughout the country. How do they get it so light and fluffy? The country is also well-known for its slow cooked stews such as the famous tajine and lamb mechoui. You can enjoy colourful salad mezzes served with freshly baked breads and a variety of seasonal fruit including apricots, watermelon, pomegranates and figs. If you’re travelling to Fes then be sure to try Pastilla – a savoury-sweet pie flavoured with spices, and on the coast in Essaouira you’ll find freshly grilled sardines.

We can arrange a cooking class for you during your stay, or for an authentic experience you can dine with a local family.
