5 Best Hikes in Morocco
BlogDiscover the blue streets of Chefchaouen and the Rif mountains
The charming blue city of Chefchaouen, which you can find in the Rif Mountains, is definitely worth a visit. If you’re travelling with Rickshaw Travel on your Morocco hiking trip, we will arrange a private guide who will join you for a day’s walk. During the hike you will first walk through the narrow streets of the medina before heading into the mountains. Along the way you will walk past farms, streams and enjoy the beautiful surroundings while your guide tells you about the flora and fauna. In the afternoon you can enjoy a picnic on the mountain’s meadow as you look out over the valley.
Join a crafts tour in Fes
The most fun royal city, in our opinion, is the colourful Fes. Here you will discover Morocco’s ancient crafts and take a look at local artisans. Make the most of your time in Fes with a local guide who knows the medina’s narrow streets by heart, and will ensure you don’t miss a beat. Admire the craftsmanship of dyers, woodworkers and silk weavers and visit the famous tanneries. At the end of your visit, you’ll be able to sit down and get to meet a local family over a fresh cup of tea.
Hiking in the Dades Valley
Head to the spectacular Dades Valley for an enriching hiking experience. If you’re travelling with us, you will have a private guide on a three hour hike through the gorge, hiking to spots you can’t easily access alone, and being immersed in local life. Walk through a narrow path towards a viewpoint where you can see the beautiful contrast between the red-coloured mountainside and the green valley. We find this one of Morocco’s best easy hikes – a lovely relaxing walk where you will enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings.
Out and about in the Ameln Valley
Hiking in the Atlas Mountains
Looking for a bigger hiking challenge?
If our suggested hikes are perhaps a bit too tame for you, then we recommend heading towards the Atlas Mountains for breath-taking views and fresh mountain air, with different hikes to suit your preferred level.
Difficult (have trained)
Climb with an experienced guide the highest mountain in North Africa: Mount Toubkal. This hike takes three days. Your effort will be rewarded with views of the Saghro mountains to the east, the Siroua mountains to the west and the Haouz plain to the north.
Normal fitness level
Want to slow down a bit? Then take a three-day guided trek on the Berber Trail. You’ll hike over mountain trails and along river valleys and look out far over the mountains. Along the way you will see shepherds with their goats and mountain villages.
All conditions – relaxed hiking
Do you find three days much too long or don’t have that much time? Then we have a nice alternative where you will spend half a day hiking through the mountains with a private guide. You will walk past waterfalls and traditional mountain villages while overlooking the snow-capped peaks.
