Best time to visit Morocco
General informationYou can travel all year round to Morocco on a family holiday but we think the best time to visit is during the Spring and Autumn months when the average temperatures range between 24 and 30 degrees, making it ideal weather for sightseeing, trekking in the Atlas Mountains and staying overnight in the desert.
The Moroccan summer is hot with an average temperature of 38 degrees inland. It is a bit cooler on the coast, with average temperature sitting around 28 degrees. The coldest months in Morocco are December, January and February, when average temperatures hover between 16 and 20 degrees. Rain, and snow in the mountains, can also be expected during winter.
Easter, May and October Half Terms
Spring and autumn are the best times of the year to travel to Morocco. During these periods, you can expect pleasant temperatures between 24 and 30 degrees, and plenty of sunshine. It’s ideal weather for sightseeing and taking part in excursions.
These are great times to go trekking in Morocco and visit the desert, although we recommend taking some extra layers as temperatures drop in the evenings in these areas. If you fancy visiting the coastal towns of Essaouira and Agadir, you’ll find daytime temperatures hover between 22 and 27 degrees at these times of year, although Essaouira’s strong winds can make it feel a little fresher.
Summer School Holidays
The hottest months of the year in Morocco are June, July and August. Daytime temperatures during this period hover around 40 degrees and can rise to 50 degrees inland and in the cities. We don’t recommend visiting the desert during these months, however it’s a good time of year to be trekking in the Atlas Mountains. Temperatures on the coast are a little cooler than inland regions, with daytime averages between 29 and 34 degrees.
Christmas and February half term
The coldest months of the year in Morocco are December, January and February but it’s still much warmer than in the UK! Average daily temperatures range from 16 to 20 degrees, but it can cool down significantly in the evenings, so pack warm layers. If you travel to Morocco during winter you should expect some rainfall and some of the mountain treks will not be accessible at this time due to snowfall. It’s a great option for some Winter sun though!
