Volcanic Peaks of Lake Atitlan – Guatemala
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Arrival at Lake Atitlan
You’ll arrive in the town of Panajachel (or Pana) and check into your locally run hotel, with a nice garden and a small pool, just a short walk from the main street and the shores of the lake. The town itself isn’t that attractive, but its setting is spectacular and there’s a good selection of places to eat and drink as the sun comes down over the water.
Day 2 – Explore the area
After breakfast you’ll be met by your local guide for the day who’ll run you through some options of what you can do. You could visit some of the other smaller villages around the shore, head off on a walk to some stunning viewpoints, or perhaps take a boat trip across the lake before you return to Pana for a second evening (and another one of those sunsets…).

Day 3 – Continue your journey
This morning, after breakfast at your hotel, it’ll be time to check out and head to your next destination. If you’d like a little more time to explore this area then just let us know and we can book extra nights for you.
Accommodation

For this bite-sized trip we offer the following options
Lake Atitlan - Sunrise hike to Indian Nose
It’s an early start if you want to catch the sunrise over one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Guatemala. There’s a short but demanding hike ahead of you, which takes around 40 minutes to reach the summit. Here, you’ll be rewarded with incredible panoramic views of the sun rising over Lake Atitlan and the neighbouring volcanoes – a peaceful moment that makes the early wake-up call more than worth it. As you gaze over Lake Atitlan and the volcanoes, you’ll spot the colourful rooftops of San Juan La Laguna below. Once you descend, this will be your next stop. Explore the town, experience the vibrant art scene and enjoy a well-deserved drink at one of the trendy coffee shops. With your guide, you will take the boat back to Panajachel, where you will have time to rest in the afternoon.
Lake Atitlan - Bike tour
Make sure you have a hearty breakfast because today will be an active day. In Panajachel, sturdy mountain bikes are ready for you. Alongside your experienced guide, you will set off on a winding route that takes you along the lake, with tough climbs and breathtaking views. After 5 km, you’ll reach Santa Catalina Palopó, where blue houses with colorful details adorn the streetscape. Then, you’ll cycle on to San Antonio Palopó. At a spinning mill, you’ll learn about traditional weaving techniques and visit a small chocolate factory. The 10 km return route offers ever-changing views of the lake.
Lake Atitlan - kayaking
If you’re looking for adventure, then we can arrange a kayaking tour on the calm waters of Lake Atitlan, surrounded by incredible volcanoes and colourful villages. From Panajachel, you’ll glide along the coast, watching fishermen cast their nets and locals go about their day, with plenty of chances to hop out and explore hidden coves or take a refreshing dip along the way.
