Sailing the Cayes – Belize
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Set sail from Caye Caulker to Rendezvous Caye
Early this morning you’ll head to the jetty to meet up with your experienced local crew and the other travellers joining your trip. You’ll jump on board the Ragga King – a mid-sized sail boat, well stocked with food, drink and all the equipment you’ll need for the next few days.
The seas around this coast are clear and bright blue, and you’ll be sailing along the world’s second largest coral reef. You’ll make stops along the way to snorkel amongst the multi-coloured fish, rays and the occasional turtle. Pods of dolphins often come alongside the boat, and you might even spot a manatee bobbing along.
In the evening you’ll drop anchor at the tiny Rendezvous Caye, where everyone will pitch tents ready for an evening camping on the beach. The crew start a fire and get some fresh fish (or veg) on the BBQ, whilst you drink a rum punch and look up at the stars. Things could be worse, right?
Day 2 – On to Ragga Caye
After breakfast you’ll pack up and get back on board, ready to continue your journey along the coast. You’ll make a few stops along the way, for snorkelling mostly, but also to meet the residents of Tobacco Caye. In the evening you’ll pitch up on Ragga Caye for another evening under the stars.
Day 3 – Back to the mainland
You’ll spend your morning having a final snorkel on the reef before a delicious last lunch on Ragga Caye. Back on board, you’ll head to the town of Dangriga where your sailing trip ends and you’ll wave goodbye to the crew and your shipmates, heading off to catch your pre-arranged transport to wherever you’re going next.
