Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival at the New River
Today you’ll reach the Orange Walk, a small town set on the New River’s bank, which will be your base for the adventures ahead, and your home for the next few nights. Your hotel is located just outside of town, overlooking the lagoon and with the jungle as a backdrop. This afternoon you haven’t got any activities booked, so you can head into town and explore the area on your own. Beware of the crocs peeping out of the river!
Day 2 – Explore the Mayan temples
Today you’ll explore the fascinating temples and Mayan ruins surrounded by dense jungle. You’ll start your adventure with a boat trip down the river, filled with crocodiles that were sacred back in the Mayan days. “Lamanai” translates as “submerged crocodile” and there surely is no lack of them in the New River! From the boat you’ll have a great view of the ancient city, then it’ll be time to get up close with the ancient civilisation. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the site and your guide will help you understand the intricate carvings and the meaning behind the architecture. After you’ve explored the ancient wonders and heard the legends your guide has shared with you, you’ll head back to the hotel for a relaxing evening.
Day 3 – Departure
Your time in Lamanai has come to an end. Enjoy your breakfast overlooking the New River before waving good bye to this fascinating place. Your next adventure awaits!
