Penang is an island-city that packs a real punch. A patchwork of Chinese, Indian and Malay cultures, it is bursting at the seams with character. During this trip, you’ll hop on a bike for a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Georgetown, the cultural heart of the city. Wander amongst the flower carts and tandoori stands of Little India, mosey past multi-coloured Chinese temples and sample some seriously tasty street food.

Pulau Pangkor is, without doubt, the best place for a truly authentic beach break in Malaysia. Just off the west coast, it’s a friendly hotspot for local holidaymakers at the weekends, and tranquil on weekdays. While the beaches may not be perfect in the traditional sense, the island has a very genuine vibe. Behind the beaches, there’s a lush rainforest just begging to be explored. It’s low-key, local and we love it.

Langkawi is a tropical paradise worthy of any postcard. With calm, turquoise waters, swaying coconut palms and soft white sands, it’s somewhere to kick off your flip flops and melt into a sun lounger. It’s by far the most popular beach destination in Malaysia but has managed to hold on to its colourful local culture. If you venture beyond the beaches, you’ll find a place packed with character.
