Nagasaki has a special connection with Europe. From the 17th to the mid-19th century, the Dutch were the only Westerners allowed to do business with Japan. It is a fascinating city with a rich history. Here you will learn about the tragic events and the aftermath of the atomic bomb, whilst also discovering the European influence on Japan culture. With its location on the river and positive atmosphere, Nagasaki is now a city with a vibrant and charming atmosphere. Wander through the city, visit colourful temples and taste the delicious food.

Day 1 – Arrival in Nagasaki

Most travellers arrive in Nagasaki by train from Fukuoka. You can either take the direct route for a quicker journey, or if you’re up for a little adventure and don’t mind an early start, take the route via Karatsu, a town renowned for its traditional pottery trade. When you get to Nagasaki, you’ll check into your charming hotel in the city centre. The rooms are typically Japanese, so quite small, but comfortable and equipped with a range of amenities. Depending on when you arrive, you may have a chance to already start to explore the city and begin your discovery tour.

Day 2 – Experience the history of Nagasaki

Nagasaki is a city with a vibrant and positive atmosphere, but carries a tragic history. During your stay, you’ll explore the fascinating city on a full-day excursion that takes you to its most iconic landmarks. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll delve into the rich history and culture of this remarkable city. Begin your day with a visit to the Peace Park, where you’ll learn more about the impact of World War II on Nagasaki. Afterwards, immerse yourself in a different side of Nagasaki and its history with a visit Dejima, a unique open-air museum in the heart of the city, which highlights the era of Dutch influence in Japan. You can also explore Glover Garden, where you’ll discover several European-style homes from the Meiji period. If the weather is nice, take in the stunning view of Nagasaki Bay and unwind in one of the garden’s charming cafés.

Days 3 – Leave Nagasaki

Bid farewell to Nagasaki and continue on your journey through Japan, carrying with you the memories of its rich history, vibrant culture, and welcoming atmosphere.
