Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Travel along the Niyodo River
Today you’ll embark on a scenic journey along the breathtaking Niyodo River. It rises at Mt Ishizuchi, the highest mountain of Shikoku, before winding its way across 124 kilometers of stunning landscapes and flowing into the sea. For an unforgettable experience, we’ll arrange for you to float over the crystal-clear waters in a clear kayak, allowing you to marvel at the vivid blue hues of the river as they shift in the sunlight. If you prefer a more active adventure, we can also organize a stand-up paddle board tour. Just let us know your preference, and we’ll ensure you have the perfect day exploring one of Shikoku’s most stunning natural wonders.
Afterwards, you’ll continue your journey towards Kochi, the capital of the prefecture of the same name, and spend the night in a hotel with a special local charm and design. The hotel is located conveniently on the tram line, so you can easily reach the city centre in a few minutes. Visit to Hirome Market in the evening, where you can experience the vibrant energy of Kochi’s food scene. Take a seat at one of the many communal tables, savour some of the local specialties, and let the lively atmosphere envelop you. It’s a fantastic opportunity to not only enjoy delicious food but also to mingle with the friendly locals.
Day 2 – Kochi castle and departure
Before continuing your journey, plan in a morning visit to Kochi Castle. Originally built in the early 17th century, the castle was severely damaged by a fire in 1727, but it was quickly rebuilt just two years later, preserving its original structure. Today, it stands as one of only twelve castles in Japan that have been preserved in their original form.
As you explore the castle, you’ll have the chance to visit the living and reception rooms, offering a glimpse into the life of the samurai era. You can also climb the castle tower, where you’ll find breathtaking panoramic views of Kochi City, the surrounding mountains, and the Pacific Ocean in the distance. It’s a perfect opportunity to capture some memorable photographs before you move on.
