Splashing in an Onsen
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival in Kinosaki-Onsen
Kinosaki-Onsen, nestled on the northern coast of Japan, is a typical “Hot Spring Town” and easily accessible from Kyoto or Osaka. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed and given a “Yukata” (informal Japanese dress) with wooden slippers that you can wear during your stay. The town boasts seven unique bathhouses, each with its own charm and story. With your complimentary onsen pass, you can indulge in bathhouse-hopping, a beloved local tradition. Tonight you’ll be treated to a delicious kaiseki-style Japanese dinner, prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients and often served in the privacy of your ryokan room.
Day 2 – Time to continue your journey
While dinner is often served in your room, breakfast is typically enjoyed in a communal area, allowing you to connect with fellow travellers. A traditional Japanese breakfast includes a delightful spread of steamed rice, miso soup, grilled fish, pickled vegetables, and occasionally a sweet or savoury egg dish. It’s a hearty and nourishing start to the day. After breakfast, you can either head straight to your next destination or dive into another bathhouse. For those seeking a little adventure, Kinosaki-Onsen’s lush and mountainous landscape offers plenty to explore. Take a hike through verdant trails or ride the gondola to Mount Daishi’s summit, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the town.
