Getting around Japan

From high-speed trains to pedal power, there are numerous ways to travel around Japan. Here’s our handy guide on your main transport options once you’re in the country.

Getting to Japan

The good news is that when travelling to Japan you’ll have a good range of direct flight choices, all departing from Heathrow. All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines, along with British Airways, provide this direct service and the duration of these flights is between 11 & 12 hours. When travelling from northern UK airports there are a few options open to you in terms of connections. Air France (Paris), KLM (Amsterdam), Emirates (Dubai), Qatar Airways (Doha), Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong) and British Airways (London) connection flights are all popular choices. You’ll usually fly into one of Tokyo’s two airports, Haneda and Narita.
