Scooting through San Gimignano
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival agriturismo San Gimignano
Today’s adventure leads you along the undulating contours of rolling hills to your enchanting agriturismo that has an outdoor swimming pool to cool off in. You’ll also discover a view over the countryside with the medieval tower village of San Gimignano in the distance. Check into your comfortable, rustic room where you can unwind and rejuvenate, before enjoying a glass of homemade wine. As evening descends, an authentic Italian dinner experience awaits. Take a seat at the long wooden table with the other guests, sharing a bottle of homemade Chianti.
Days 2-3 – On the Vespa through Tuscany, Italy
After breakfast this morning you’ll drive to San Gimignano, where you’ll trade in your car for a new set of wheels – your own Vespa. You’ll mainly drive on country roads with little traffic and below San Gimignano is where the real Tuscan countryside begins. Navigate your way through vineyards and along avenues of cypress-lined villas to the golden-brown hills of Val d’Orcia. On the quiet roads that meander through this timeless landscape, you’ll find yourself drawn to the allure of places like Montepulciano and Volterra, single-street villages that feel like glimpses into another era.
The next day you can either rent the vespa for another day, or you may prefer to unwind at the edge of the pool with a good book after a busy day yesterday. If you fancy something more adventurous, the city of Siena awaits, a mere hour’s journey from your agriturismo. For centuries, Siena and Florence have engaged in a friendly rivalry for the title of the most beautiful Tuscan city. While there might not be a clear victor, Siena has magnificently preserved its medieval charm, its essence captured within high, slender palazzi, secret gardens, Gothic towers, and winding covered alleys. In every corner, history comes alive, inviting you to trace its footsteps and become a part of its living tapestry.
Day 4 – Departure from Tuscany
After one last breakfast panini, you’ll be ready to continue your culinary adventure heading to rural Umbria to make pasta on a traditional farm.
