Our unique accommodation

We love finding accommodation that’s just a little bit different. That’s why in each of our destinations, we hand-pick a range of small-scale and locally-run accommodation, packed with character and plenty of local charm. From jungle lodges to boutique guesthouses, here’s a taster of the kind of places you could be waking up to.

From Casas Particulares to eco-retreats in Cuba

Nothing beats staying in a Cuban casa particular (Bed & Breakfast) for a real taste of Cuban hospitality. Due to the communist regime, all hotels in Cuba are owned and operated by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, so it can be a little tricky to find small-scale properties, but we’ve found some real gems.

Get close to nature in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is all about nature, and our accommodation here aims to get you as close to it as possible. Whether it’s a charming coastal retreat, a jungle lodge, or even an observatory overlooking a volcano, you’ll be waking up to something amazing every day.

Incredible views in Vietnam

We love to offer a variety of different styles of accommodation in Vietnam, each with its own individual charm. Who needs a swimming pool when the great blue ocean is just steps from your door? Cruise through karst landscapes on a traditional junk boat or sip cocktails on the porch of your beach bungalow. From a river lodge on the banks of the Mekong, to an eco-farmstay in the heart of a national park or a boutique city hotel, you’re sure to have more than just a place to stay.

Tribal homestays and castaway beach huts in Borneo

We have some incredible places to stay in Borneo. Wake up to the sounds of the jungle in a rainforest lodge on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, go back to basics on a homestay with the remote Iban tribe, fall asleep in a treehouse on the Damai Peninsula and listen to lapping waves outside your beach bungalow.

Keralan houseboats and Maharajan palaces in India

Our accommodation in India is pretty unusual – fancy spending the night in a desert tent, enjoying a night on a cosy houseboat as it drifts through tropical backwaters or soaking up the splendour of a Maharajan-style palace in the hills?

Hit the hills in Sri Lanka

We specialise in hand-picked, small-scale accommodation full of local character. You could spend a night with a local family, in a charming colonial hotel or in a safari tent surrounded by the sounds of Yala National Park. Perched on a hillside and surrounded by rolling tea plantations, this charming eco-lodge just outside of Kandy has everything you could think of and more.

Enjoy traditional Chinese surroundings

Our accommodation in China includes a lodge located on a mountainside a retreat near the Yulong river, a guest house completely decorated in Tibetan style, a modern hotel right in the heart of Xian or a courtyard hotel nestled away in one of Beijing’s Hutongs.

Cabins and camping in Canada

When you travel with us to Canada you’ll experience lots of different types of accommodation along the way, each with their own charm. From cosy camps and pine-clad cabins to lakeside lodges and boutique city hotels.

Have a spiritual experience in Japan

We love to seek out the unique in Japan, from very traditional Japanese Ryokans to western-style stays in the city. How about spending the night in an ancient Buddhist temple? You’ll be immersed in the culture, and witness and make sure to wake early to witness the captivating fire and prayer ceremony performed by monks – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Indonesia

Indonesia is home to over a whopping 17,000 islands. So there’s plenty of options when it comes to accommodation – whether you’re after something simple or stylish. Choose from cosy guesthouses among Bali’s rice paddies to superior cruises off Komodo island and basic tents pitched atop a volcanic crater lake.

Brazil

This could be a traditional pousada, a small hotel or a local guesthouse personally run by the owners. It could also be a colonial villa, a fazenda or an Amazon jungle lodge.

As we use a hand-picked selection of authentic hotels with lots local character, we therefore steer clear of international chains and use Brazilian properties wherever possible.

Remote, relaxed and full of Bahian charm, Ilha de Boipeba is a little island paradise where you can forget all about the real world. Getting here isn’t simple, but maybe that’s a good thing?

Thailand

During your trip to Thailand you can stay in a wide range of accommodation, from a night in a rustic hill tribe hut, to a floating raft house in the jungle or a boutique resort on a paradise island. We use a hand-picked selection of smaller hotels wherever we can, avoiding international chains, to give you a local and authentic experience when it comes to where you stay.
