RegionSumatra is the most western island of Indonesia and considered by many to be the most interesting and diverse in the archipelago. The island boasts a huge natural diversity; dense jungle and giant crater lakes, rivers, waterfalls and towering volcanoes. Sumatra is also home to several different ethnic groups like the once legendary head hunters and cannibals on Samosir, and the colourful Minangkabau tribe in Bukittinggi.

RegionEndless tea plantations, smoking volcanoes, bright rice paddies, and historic colonial cities. That’s what you can expect to encounter on your journey across Java from Jakarta in the west to Kalibaru in the far east. The Balinese people have refined taste in architecture and design and you’ll notice this in the tastefully decorated cottages, outdoor bathrooms, charming interiors and exotic gardens.

RegionLombok and the idyllic Gili Islands attract the most visitors to these eastern islands, with sparkling blue seas and a relaxed atmosphere. The challenge of scaling the mighty Rinjani volcano is also a big draw for many travellers. Further east, Flores has yet to be discovered by mass tourism, but has a unique character, fascinating people and untouched natural beauty, ready to be discovered.

RegionKalimantan (Indonesian side of Borneo) is a real gem for explorers who are looking for an off the beaten path adventure. This remote region is relatively undeveloped and offers a real taste of wilderness. Dense jungle teeming with wildlife, indigenous tribes with their unique traditions and beautiful untouched nature all around are some of the main draws of this undiscovered land.
