Pulau Weh: Sumatra’s snorkelling paradise
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Arrival on Pulau Weh
After arriving in Banda Aceh, you will be met by one of our friendly drivers, who will take you to the port to catch your ferry over to Pulau Weh. The scenic crossing takes around 1.5 hours, during which you’ll enjoy panoramic views over the Andaman Sea, with crystal clear waters, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot dolphins or sea turtles along the way. You’ll soon start to spot sandy white beaches lined with palm trees – welcome to paradise! A local driver will meet you at the port and take you to your beachfront eco-resort, where you will stay in a rustic bungalow with stunning sea views for the next three nights.
Day 2 – Free time on Pulau Weh
Today is free for you to spend as you wish. There is a whole world to be explored just steps away from your bungalow, heading underwater at Sumur Tiga Beach. Grab a mask and snorkel and discover the abundant tropical fish thriving within the colourful coral reefs. If you want to see more, you can arrange a short boat ride to Rubiah Island, where you will find some of the best snorkelling on the island. Heading deeper, go on a deep-water dive where you’ll likely spot manta rays, reef sharks and sea turtles. If you’d prefer to kick back and embrace the laid-back island atmosphere, there are plenty of beaches with crystal clear waters and soft white sands to be enjoyed. Whether you prefer more of an adventure filled with activities or a chance to unwind, Pulau Weh offers something for everyone.

Day 3 – Becak Island tour
As Pulau Weh is a small island, the best way to discover all the sights is on a becak tour. Today, you’ll be riding in a becak, alongside your friendly driver who will take you on a tour of the island. Passing through the green interior of the island, you’ll spot many monkeys along the way, stopping at various viewpoints to take in the breathtaking views over the clear blue water and green mountain peaks. During the tour, you will stop at one of the island’s powdery white beaches for a break. Bring your snorkelling mask and take a peek beneath the surface for more marine encounters – if you’re lucky, you might spot a passing sea turtle or ray.
Day 4 – Departure from Pulau Weh
After breakfast, you will say goodbye to island life and board the boat back to Banda Aceh. If your trip ends here, you can fly home via Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur, or head into the jungle of Sumatra and check out the highlight of any trip to this region – orangutans swinging between the treetops.
