Bite-sized trip
  • Itinerary:
Flores: Labuan Bajo - Komodo and Rinca Islands - Labuan Bajo
  • Duration:
    3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
from £ 570.- per person (excluding flights)
Seek out giant Komodo dragons on the mystical islands of Rinca and Komodo. Staying on nearby Flores, you’ll take a boat trip to Komodo and Rinca, tiny islands topped with forested hills and packed with astounding wildlife. Together, they make up the UNESCO World Heritage of Komodo National Park, named after the mammoth scaly residents that patrol the shore. It’s a thrilling trip that’s likely to get your toes tingling.

Day 1 – Arrival in Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo is a picturesque town on the island of Flores. Originally a small fishing community, it’s maintained a great deal of its ramshackle charm. You’ll stay in a cosy eco-lodge by the sea with a swimming pool. From the upstairs bar and restaurant there’s a fantastic view out to the Komodo islands. Spend your first night here sipping on a cocktail, watching the sun sink slowly behind distant islands.

Day 2-3 – Komodo & Rinca islands & departure

Today you’ll go in search of giant Komodo dragons with a local ranger and guide who knows the islands like the back of his hand. Komodo Dragons are a protected species, so the T-shaped stick he carries is only meant to keep the lizards at a safe distance. The creatures aren’t exactly dangerous but they’re not entirely harmless either; there are millions of bacteria in a Komodo bite – enough to kill a person.

After visiting Komodo, you’ll continue to Rinca. The landscape here is greener and hillier than Komodo, and you can take a 2-hour walk across the island with a local guide with fantastic views across the sea and the island. With a bit of luck, you’ll spot the odd dragon amongst the horses, deer, water buffalo and monkeys. After the tour, you’ll return to Labuan Bajo where you can take advantage of the tempting pool.

The next day you’ll gather your things together and get ready to hit the road again.
