While the whole of Bali is asleep you’ll be awake and dressed by 2am, ready to climb Mount Batur (or Gunung Batur) to witness the sunrise. Along with your friendly guide, you’ll follow a narrow path up to the top which can get quite technical and tougher the higher you climb. Be sure to kit yourself out with sturdy walking boots and warm socks, a warm sweater, light gloves and a hat if you feel the cold. It’ll be worth it when you’re sitting on the crater rim, sipping hot coffee and watching the Mount Batur sunrise over Bali, colouring the hills and valleys a golden orange.
Morning Program Helping with the Children with Disabilities
Indonesia is undoubtedly a paradise, but even in paradise, there are shadows: Disabilities are often viewed in large parts of Indonesian society as a kind of punishment for the affected families. Consequently, people with physical or mental limitations in Indonesia are often denied the right to integration into society. By visiting the Yayasan Widya Guna Foundation in Ubud, you are making a small contribution to ensuring that physically or mentally challenged children in Bali get a good start in life. Yayasan Widya Guna is a non-profit organization in Ubud and has been a place since 2006 where orphans, physically or mentally challenged, and other needy children are given a chance for as independent a life as possible. The children are taught, treated, provided with food, and lovingly cared for in the foundation’s learning centre. By visiting the Yayasan Widya Guna Foundation, you support the organisation’s work for a morning as a volunteer helper.
Cooking class with lunch
Fancy spending the morning learning how to cook Balinese-style? Starting off with a visit to Ubud market to pickup some vital ingredients, you’ll then head into the vegetable garden to gather everything you’ll need for the class. Your teacher will talk you through the different flavours and how to combine them, along with some traditional cooking techniques. Once the class is finished you’ll enjoy to fruits of your labour with a delicious Balinese lunch.
