Treasures of Lombok
ItineraryDays 1-3 – Tumbling rice paddies of Ubud
Ubud is the bohemian centre of Bali, an atmospheric world of small artist studios, yoga schools, restaurants and cafes. Spend two nights ambling amongst the rice terraces that flow down the hills and into the valleys like rich green waterfalls. Watch daily life unfold in authentic villages, learn about coffee production and soak up the inspiring spirit of the place.
Days 3-5 – Bobbing boats and shimmering shores
You’ll make your own way back to the airport and catch a short half hour domestic flight to Mataram on Lombok island. On arrival a transfer will whisk you away to your beach resort in Senggigi, roughly an hour away. Laze beneath coconut palms on Lombok, hop between tiny tropical islands and snorkel in clear, azure waters. Lombok’s sweeping sandy bays make the perfect base for exploring abandoned offshore islands, with killer sunsets and cocktails to match. Take an island-hopping trip aboard a traditional fishing boat and, in the evenings, watch the fiery sun sink into the sea next to Bali’s biggest volcano.
Days 5-7 – Authentic Lombok
From Sengiggi you’ll hike for about 2 hours to the village of Tetebatu. Along the way you’ll stop off at a waterfall for a refreshing dip. Hike to hidden waterfalls, ramble through rice paddies and meet the local people in the countryside. Tetebatu is a peaceful pocket of Lombok nestled in the valley surrounding Rinjani volcano. Scattered with tiny Sasak villages, it’s a brilliant place to peek into authentic Lombok. You’ll stay in Tetebatu, learning about local pottery, wandering along shady hiking trails and soaking up the scenery.
Days 7-10 – Footsteps on the volcano
We’ll arrange for a private car to take you from Tetebatu roughly 3.5 hours to Senaru for the beginning of your Rinjani trek. Sleep under the stars on the slopes of an active volcano, watch dawn break over the mist-swirled valleys below and gaze over clear, rippling crater lakes. This is a trek to really remember. You’ll climb the cinder cone of Mount Rinjani, camp on the crater rim and explore the high volcanic plains. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but well worth the effort once you get up above the clouds. You will spend a night before and after your trek in small local hotel in Senaru, close to the Rinjani Trek Centre and your trekking trail.
Days 10-12 – White sands of the Gilis
After your night in Senaru you’ll travel by private car to Bangsal pier, roughly a 2 hour drive, where you’ll catch the boat across to the Gili Islands. The boat crossing takes about 40 minutes. Visit a laid-back barefoot escape with swaying coconut palms and an underwater world begging to be explored. Snooze in the sunshine, take barefoot strolls, feast on sizzling seafood and snorkel with sea turtles. The Gili Islands are a castaway sensation. The sand is white, the water is unbelievably clear, and the atmosphere is completely carefree.
Days 12-14 – Beaches of southern Bali
You’ll hop aboard the boat to take you back to Bali. On arrival a private transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Sanur. It’s a great place to end a busy trip to Indonesia, with narrow beaches, spa treatments and seafood by the bucket-load. Stretch out by the pool, take a leisurely walk along the beach and grab a cocktail at sunset. Simple. At the end of your stay we’ll arrange for a private transfer to take you to the airport where you’ll catch your international flight back to the UK.
