Bali with the Family: Bikes, Boards & Beaches
ItineraryDays 1-4 – Cycling through the green fields of Ubud
Only an hour’s hop away from the airport, you’ll find Ubud – the green heart of Bali. Nestled in between bright green rice paddies, this is the best place to come and relax after having arrived in Bali. You’ll head out on a cycling tour with a local guide, passing rice fields and artisan villages. You’ll be staying in a traditional Balinese-style hotel just outside of the centre, as this way you can really enjoy the surrounding views of the tumbling rice paddies.
Days 4-6 – Nature trails through the hills
From Ubud, you and your family will hop into your transfer and head to Munduk, a 2-hour drive. Over the next couple of days, you’ll explore the hilltop village of Munduk and the surrounding area. Lush jungles, rice paddies and calm lakes await along with a stay in a traditional Balinese cottage. During your time here you’ll be joined by a local guide who will take you on an expedition through fruit plantations and rice terraces to learn about the produce grown here, from how a pineapple grows to the taste of sweet vanilla.
Days 6-9 – Time out on tropical shores
Today, you’ll be picked up by your private driver and transferred to the beautiful village of Pemuteran, around 1.5 hours journey. Snorkel through colourful coral reefs, swim in azure waters and trek through lush jungle. You’ll stay in a family-friendly resort in Pemuteran, a fishing village on the north-west coast of Bali. The following day you’ll take a boat trip to tiny Menjangan Island with its sapphire blue sea and beautiful coral reefs. Divers come here from all over the world, but you don’t need to go diving to enjoy the underwater world – a mask, snorkel and fins will get you close enough to the brightly coloured fish that swim just below the surface. The rest of your time here is entirely your own. The Bali Barat National Park in the north-western tip of Bali is a great destination for trekking through the jungle forest to spot monkeys and tropical birds in their natural habitat.
Days 9-12 – Sacred ceremonies at the water palace
From here, a private car will take you and your family to your water palace hotel, roughly 3.5 hours away. Immerse your family in Balinese traditions and rituals in unspoilt Amed. Visit the gardens of Tirtagangga water palace as your children learn about incense-offerings and how to practice these in a Balinese temple. You’ll all dress in traditional clothing, feeling like royalty as you join in the rituals and get creative. Your hotel is on the doorstep of a coral reef beach, and although it’s not the most beautiful beach in Bali – grab your snorkel and flippers and see who can spot the colourful parrotfish first.
Days 12-15 – Surfing in Sanur
Today, you’ll leave the lush water palace as you head to the stunning beaches of Sanur, approximately 2 hours away. Sanur is a little seaside town in Southern Bali and a perfect place for families due to its serene atmosphere and child-friendly beaches. As well as soft white sands, you’ll find plenty of cosy cafes and restaurants. The next few days are for you to do nothing but relax whilst the kids play in the sand and if they’re old enough; can even take part in some surfing lessons. Chill out by the pool, take a walk along the shores and grab a cocktail or mocktail as you watch the sun go down. Bliss!
At the end of your family holiday, you’ll be transferred to the airport, a short 30 minute drive away to begin your journey home.
