Bukit Lawang is a small village in Northern Sumatra, a popular destination for families who want to immerse themselves in the wild green jungle. The rainforest here is part of the Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the richest and diverse tropical forest ecosystems on the planet, where you'll spend the next few days exploring. The orangutans are the most famous residents that people come to see, but if you're lucky you may even spot leopards, baboons, monkeys as well as other wildlife.

Day 1 – Arrive in Bukit Lawang

Today you’ll all be transferred to Bukit Lawang by a private car. Although a trip here cannot be complete without seeing the orangutans, you can still spend your days here lounging in hammocks, splashing or tubing in the river and taking a stroll around the area. Your family will be staying in an eco-lodge, which is immersed in Sumatra’s unique rainforest environment and whilst staying here you’ll be directly contributing to the conservation of the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan.

Day 2 – Orangutan and Jungle Trek

For many people, the orangutans in Bukit Lawang are the reason to travel to Sumatra, and today you’ll head off to see these great apes playing up in the jungle trees. To reach our furry ginger friends, you’ll head on a trek. It can get hilly here but the climb is easy for young children and not too far of a walk. Look up and you’ll spot these Orangutans swinging through the jungle canopy not far above your heads. Your local guide knows the best spots to see them since he is familiar with their habits. So grab your cameras and be ready for the moments that will leave a smile on all of your faces for days.

Day 3 – Departure From Bukit Lawang

Today it’s time to say goodbye to the great apes as you get ready to leave Bukit Lawang. Your transfer will be ready and waiting to take you and the family on to your next destination.
