Accommodation in India
Where will you stay in India
We specialise in hand-picked, small-scale accommodation, that offer a true sense of place and are full of local character. We steer away from big, soulless chain hotels, preferring properties with a more personal atmosphere and authentic hospitality. In India you’ll experience a wide variety of styles, for example you might overnight in a desert tent, enjoy a night on a cosy houseboat as it drifts through tropical backwaters, or laze in a cosy bungalow on the beach.
How it works
We work with a range of properties in each location, each personally checked by us and chosen for its comfort, character, location, and amenities. This gives us the flexibility to find the perfect spot, improves availability during busy times, and allows us to offer upgrades or customise your experience to fit your preferences. We rate our accommodation using 4 categories.
Here’s what to expect from your Rickshaw accommodation:
Most of our India accommodation fits into our standard category (category 3). Our hand-picked standard accommodation will give you all the small-scale charm and warm hospitality of India in a favourable location. It could be a cosy haveli decorated with traditional Rajasthani elegance, an atmospheric jungle lodge in the middle of a national park, a comfortable clay hut in the countryside or a heritage hotel with views of the Ganges River.
In-Style accommodation - Category 4
Our In Style accommodation will give you a little extra something in terms of facilities, creature comforts, service levels or atmosphere. Perhaps a converted colonial tea estate, a former historic castle or a boutique beach hotel. In Rajasthan you can experience the life of a Maharaja and spend the night in a palace, or in a majestic fort that’s been renovated into a heritage hotel. For a unique and memorable stay, we recommend adding at least one of these into your itinerary.
Special stay
For some of our bite-sized trips, we’ve found truly special accommodations that are slightly more expensive than our usual offerings, but the experience is well worth it. In Jaipur we offer such an experience, where you’ll stay in an actual Maharaja’s palace, brimming with grandeur and elegance. You’ll feel like royalty as you stroll past the murals in the audience hall or relax in the palace gardens.
In South India, we offer the option to stay in heritage hotels, such as in Kerala bite-sized trip. Here, you’ll sleep in colonial-style hotels with heavy wooden furniture and sometimes even a four-poster bed. These hotels often feature swimming pools as well.
Simple accommodation - Category 2
Sometimes in India, the accommodation facilities just aren’t as important as the surroundings. In this category you can expect modest accommodation with private facilities. Such as a small, family-run guest house tucked away in a quiet city location, a simply furnished property with fantastic mountain views, or bungalow located under waving palm trees.
