Travelling in Iceland means seeing a different landscape every few hours. On this trip you won’t be exploring by car or on foot, but on the back of the Icelandic horses. During this module, you will discover the Saudárkrókur region, known for its remote farms and undulating landscapes. We’ll book you into a cosy guesthouse and organise a local guide to give you the full experience.

Days 1-2 – Icelandic horses at Saudárkrókur

After a drive along the coastal roads via Dalvik and Hosfos, you will reach the Saudárkrókur region. Check into your authentic guesthouse, drop off your bags and and take in the views – the scenery here is breath-taking with the town being located right by the fjord.

If you would ask an Icelander where the best place to go horseback riding is, they will certainly say Saudárkrókur. So the next day you’ll saddle up for a horseback riding tour from a local farm at the nearby town of Varmahlid. Explore the surroundings of the farm together with an experienced local guide and the Icelandic horses. It is an incredibly special way to enjoy all the natural beauty of this stunning area.

Day 3 – Leave Saudárkrókur

Your stay at Saudárkrókur is already over! This morning you’ll have some time to explore the area, before hitting the road again, so why not take one more relaxing walk along the coast. Most people head back to Reykjavik from Saudárkrókur. If you have the time, plan in a stopover en route in the West Fjords to discover the thermal activity that brews there.
